| THE WORLD OF SALT Salt is the most common of denominators. No man or animal can live without it. Yet, it takes many forms the world over. In color, it can range from pristine white to black; it can be clean and pure, mixed with clay, or smoked to enhance its flavor. Wars have been fought over salt and great cities have been built on its trade. The Romans conquered the holy land to acquire salt and changed the course of western history. People and animals travel for miles to reach it. It can be found in the desert, along the shores of great lakes, and in deep underground mines. Mention of salt is found in the holy books of great religions and in the folklore and sayings of many cultures. |
